1. Why is the ISPA programme necessary for the rehabilitation and modernization of the water and sewerage systems but also for the waste water treatment plant from Suceava?
Suceava city needs investment in the fields of water and sewerage because:

• the water distribution system of Suceava insures drinkable water for 75% of the town inhabitants and the main water pipes are between18 and 90 years old;
• the sewerage system of Suceava Municipality is made of basalt, concrete, steel and reinforced concrete, around 195 km of sewer lines are expired (they are 30 years or more old) and 6, 65 km of pipes are almost 90 years old;
• the Wastewater Treatment Plant is oversized ( it covers almost 18 ha) and the used equipment has a low treatment efficiency and uses a high amount of energy; 

2. How many streets in Suceava will be affected by the works of the ISPA Project?
The Programme consists of 91 streets out of which 42 streets are in the central area of the town, 8 are in the G. Enescu and Obcini districts, 31 streets are in Brudujeni district and 10 in Itcani district. read more

3.  How much is the investment of the ISPA Programme in Suceava worth?
The European Union is granting through the ISPA project in Suceava a non-reimbursable financial assistance in value of 33.442.500 Euros, which represents 63,58 % from the total budget of the project.  A rate of 12, 72% represent a co-financing loan from the German Bank for Development (Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau ) granted to the Municipality of Suceava and 23,69% represent a co-finance from the State Budget.
The total value of the investment in Suceava city is 52.591.760 Euros worth.

4. Will the drinking water distribution network of the municipality be rehabilitated?
YES.
The ISPA Measure includes works of extension of the water supply system by 22 km, the rehabilitation of 14 km of distribution pipes and the replacement of 12 km of pipes.

5. Will the municipality sewerage system be extended?
YES.
The sewerage system of Suceava Municipality will be extended by 10 km in Burdujeni district and 4 km in Itcani district and 23 km of sewer lines and manholes will be replaced.

6. Does the project have any other benefits?
The expected ISPA Project benefits are closely connected to the improvement of the population’s health and environment protection.  One must mention that the project also includes the rehabilitation of the waste water treatment plant of the municipality, so that the discharge of used waters into Suceava river will be done according to the standards of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive 91/271/CCE. This is very important for the protection of the environment.
